Alexey Navalny goes on hunger strike in the colony
Politician Alexei Navalny, who is in a colony in Pokrov, went on a hunger strike. This is stated in a post published on social networks by the politician.
Navalny said that he decided to go on a hunger strike, as he was denied medical assistance. According to the politician, the prisoners “have no other methods of struggle.”
I have the right to call a doctor and get medicine. Neither one nor the other is stupidly given to me. The back pain has moved to the leg. Areas of the right and now the left leg have lost sensitivity. Jokes aside, but this is already annoying.
Attached to the post on social networks was a statement that Navalny wrote to the head of the colony. In it, he stressed that “the right to medical assistance and examination by an invited specialist doctor is prescribed in black and white in the law.” Navalny also noted that he sees no reason to write new appeals demanding assistance, since “the only reaction to them is psychological pressure.”
The department of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Vladimir region told Open Media that they did not know anything about Navalny’s hunger strike.
Navalny and his lawyers spoke about the deterioration of his condition early last week. The politician complained of pain in his back and leg and that he was not receiving the medical care he was asking for. Navalny also reported “torture with insomnia” – according to him, at night he is woken up every hour for a check.
The FSIN asserted that Navalny’s condition was “stable and satisfactory.” The POC of the Vladimir region, whose members visited Navalny in the colony, stated that he complained of pain in his leg and asked for assistance in receiving injections of painkillers, but “no other wishes were expressed”.
