Gazprom promises to complete Nord Stream 2 by 2022

Gazprom says the project is ready by about 92%.REUTERSREUTERS

Chairman of the Board of Directors with Russia’s gas giant Gazprom Viktor Zubkov says the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will be completed by the end of 2021.

“Work is in under way, there is very little left. Of course, it will definitely be completed this year. It’s a pity we’ve lost time, but it has happened so,” TASS quoted Zubkov as saying.

According to him, the project is ready by “90-92%.”

Commenting on German media reports that Berlin had raised the issue of strengthening Ukraine’s energy sector in talks with Washington, Zubkov said: “Legally, all contracts have been concluded with Ukraine and other companies.”

“The main thing is to complete Nord Stream 2 and continue to supply the volumes stipulated in the contracts, to supply them via Ukraine, and no one is removing these issues,” he added.

Asked whether there were any plans to revise contracts with Ukraine, he said: “No, I don’t think so.”

Nord Stream 2: Background

  • The Nord Stream 2 project envisages the construction and operation of two gas pipeline branches with a total throughput capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year from the coast of Russia through the Baltic Sea to Germany. It should connect Russia’s Ust-Lug and Germany’s Greifswald. This new pipeline bypassing Ukraine is to be built next to the existing Nord Stream 1 pipeline.
  • The construction of the pipeline was expected to be completed before the end of 2019.
  • The pipeline will be 1,220 km long. The project is being implemented by Russia’s Gazprom in alliance with European companies – ENGIE, OMV, Royal Dutch Shell, Uniper, and Wintershall. Ukraine stands against the construction of Nord Stream 2 as it will most likely lose its status of a gas transit country, while its potential revenue losses are estimated at US$3 billion annually. The project is also highly criticized by the U.S., Poland, and the Baltic States.
  • On November 4, 2020, the media reported that U.S. Congress wanted to expand sanctions against Nord Stream 2 and TurkStream.
  • On December 6, 2020, United States Charge d’Affaires to Germany Robin Quinville called on the EU and Germany to declare a moratorium on the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
  • On December 9, 2020, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) with expanded restrictions against the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
  • On December 11, 2020, the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline resumed.
  • On December 29, 2020, it became known that the House of Representatives overcame the then President Donald Trump’s veto on the U.S. defense budget with sanctions on Nord Stream 2.
  • The United States is urging European allies and private companies to halt works on Nord Stream 2, and is preparing broader sanctions against the Russian project in the coming weeks.
  • The U.S. Senate approved the U.S. defense budget for the fiscal year 2021, which provides for new sanctions against Russia’s Nord Stream 2.
  • On January 7, 2021, a fund was established in Germany to support the completion of the Nord Stream 2 project.
  • On January 13, 2021, the U.S. Department of State notified European companies involved in the construction of Nord Stream 2 of the risk of imposing new sanctions.
  • On January 18, 2021, the United States warned allies in Europe about its intention to impose sanctions on the Russian ship Fortuna, which is engaged in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
  • On March 14, 2021, Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal Frans Timmermans said that Europe did not need the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Despite this, Germany continues to insist on the completion of the project.
  • On March 18, 2021, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called Russia’s Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline a trap for all countries across Europe.

He should have added, At least not until our next Russian lover is elected chancellor of Germany.

Is Biden still snoozing, or have the newest sanctions been signed yet? Time is ticking…

    • Mark my words, Biden will throw Ukraine under the bus in a second if he can get a nuclear deal with the Moskali and Chicoms…..or a Green energy deal with them. God I pray I’m wrong but the Socialists are running the Whitehouse and poor Joe doesn’t even remember his wife.

      • The doddery, decrepit performance he put in at the press conference was depressing. Apparently it was little different to a totalitarian state: questions all pre-arranged, prepared answers, no awkward questions from conservative journalists allowed. Even when responding to friendly questions, he floundered hopelessly and frequently became incoherent.
The mood music suggests he wants to pushback against putler, but so far nothing concrete.
Inevitably, the hard left Harris and mafia hag Pelosi will soon be running things. Their hatred of Britain and love for garbage like Macron and Merkel will trump their concern (if any) for Ukraine.

        • The Deep State bureaucrats are not going to allow another free and open election and take any chance of having an outsider like Trump become president. We see that by who won the last election. Ask yourself if it’s possible for a guy to stay home, stammer every sentence, come in 3rd or 4th place in the early primaries and yet get 8 million more votes than Obama? The Deep State is interested in the status quo…and so is XI and Putler.

          • It looks like they will give shit loads of passports away to third worlders, many illiterate even in their own language, mainly RC’s like Joe, thus chipping away at the WASP work ethic and increasing the Dem voter bloc. Put enough of them in Texas and it will fall to the Dems. Game over for the GOP.
Meanwhile in Europe, the situation is getting worse: putinoid vermin Merkel about to replaced by someone even worse and the repellent Macron possibly to be replaced by vile putinazi puppet Le Pen.
Hard to be optimistic these days redders!

That’s right, Red. Those governments know why they won’t allow an armed citizenry. And it’s not because of any safety issues if you don’t count the safety of government scum.

                • What kind of government would that be that wouldn’t trust their citizens enough to let them protect themselves. Scary, really. That’s what Hitler did first was take the media and take the guns. Enough said. I don’t even own a gun but I’m getting closer to that age I may need one, or 7 if BLM/Antifa gain strength.

I urge any law-abiding citizen to own a firearm and to get familiar with its use. Excepting that the government can GUARANTEE your safety. But, unless you are some sort of VIP, we all know that this is wholly impossible. I, for one, don’t trust my safety or that of my family’s to ANY government. Period.

You might be right there. I can’t and I won’t forget his and Obumer’s dismal showing in face of mafia land and Ukraine. And, “poor” Joe is socialist scum and Harris is worse. I cringe when I see what is happening at our southern border.

        • This is really what it’s come down to lately. Socialists’ ideas are so bad that they have to lie to and distract the public, and demonize their opponents to get elected. Well, the current day Socialists have run out of highway even though they automatically get the bureaucrat vote, the welfare vote and the union votes. They need more voters so they need more people addicted to government just like the bureaucrats and unions.
