Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who took part in the presidential elections in Belarus, believes that the power will change in the country by the end of the year.

“Lukashenka’s regime will fall this year. I think he will leave in the spring, ”Tikhanovskaya said in an interview with Bild magazine.

In her opinion, pressure on the regime, both inside the country and outside, will lead to a change of power. “When all those who are against will act in different ways. We are in the majority, ”she said. “We also hope for a strong alliance between the new US government and the EU,” added Tikhanovskaya.

The feeling that nothing is changing in the country is false, she stressed. “The whole country has changed over the past six months, everyone has changed. Nobody can knock the idea of ​​freedom and dignity out of the minds of Belarusians. People will never return to the slavery they came out of. Now we are free and this feeling is only getting stronger, ”said Tikhanovskaya.

In February, in an interview with the Swiss newspaper Le Temps, Tikhanovskaya said that the protest movement in Belarus “lost the streets,” but could resume its activity in the spring.

Svetlana Tikhanovskaya was the main rival of Alexander Lukashenko in the presidential elections in Belarus in August 2020. After the CEC announced the victory of Lukashenka, mass protests began in the country, which during the first days of the authorities were brutally suppressed. Tikhanovskaya, who did not recognize the election results, was forced to go abroad under pressure from the authorities.
