Government approves resolution on banning registration of Russian vaccines

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the Procedure for state registration of COVID-19 vaccines and banned the registration of vaccines produced by the aggressor state.

The relevant government’s resolution as of February 8, No.95, has been published on the Government portal, Ukrinform reports.

“To approve the Procedure for state registration of vaccines or other medical immunobiological drugs for the specific prevention of the acute respiratory release COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, under the obligation for emergency medical use,” reads the document.

By this resolution, the Cabinet of Ministers also prohibited the registration of vaccines or other medical immunobiological drugs for the prevention of the acute respiratory disease COVID-19 caused by coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, under the obligation for emergency medical use, which were developed and/or produced in a state that was recognized by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine as the aggressor state.

As reported by Ukrinform, the Ukrainian Ministry of Health is planning to start vaccination against COVID-19 in February 2021. The ministry plans to vaccinate 50% of the population of Ukraine in 2021-2022.

Ukraine will receive 8 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine within the COVAX Facility. The delivery of the first batch of 117,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine is expected in mid-February.

Ukraine also signed an agreement to purchase 1.9 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from the Chinese company Sinovac Biotech.
