ukraine: Kravchuk tells how Russia keeps blocking solutions within TCG

Russians tie settlement of the region’s social and economic issues to politics.

Chief of the Ukrainian delegation at the Minsk talks, Leonid Kravchuk, commented on the recent statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin that progress in the Donbas conflict settlement allegedly depended solely on Ukraine.

As an example, Kravchuk cited the methods Russians and their proxy forces use to block the solution of a number of issues considered by the Trilateral Contact Group.

“I’ll give one example. There are four subgroups in the Minsk process as such, and among them have a socio-economic group. At the subgroup’s meetings, there had previously been no sharp discussions, Ukraine would ask any questions and offer concrete action – on transport, on social issues in general. We would then reach a general discussion, Russia and ORDLO [Kremlin proxy forces] would find a pretext not to do it. And this was linked with the solution of political issues. They would say, only when the law on local elections is canceled will we consider this issue – this was directly stated from the screen [in videoconference],” he said, speaking with Ukraine 24 TV.

Russia, Kravchuk says, ties all social and economic issues with political ones.

“Ukraine has put forward proposals on how and when this can be done, but I repeat: it was Russia that has been linking any issues – exchange of held persons, economic issues, humanitarian ones – with political issues that have no connection with them at all,” he said.

  1. Ukraine: Ok let’s talk about prisoner exchange.
Moskali: Ok, right after we vote.
Ukraine: Then let’s talk about restoring the water supply.
Moskali: Sure, right after we vote.
Ukraine: Let’s follow Minsk, remove all foreign troops.
Moskali: Ok, right after we vote.
Ukraine: Does Putin really wear platform shoes?
Moskali: Sure, right after we vote.
Ukraine: Your Mama dresses you funny.
Moskali, Ok, right after we vote.

    • So they want to cancel parts of the Minsk agreement they don’t like, in favour of other parts? Or more to the point, they don’t want to settle anything.

        • Yeah, voting Russian style, at the point of a gun. It’s time Ukraine ripped up this agreement, and called in the US and UK to implement the Budapest memorandum.

          • According to Minsk the parameters for voting will come from the Rada, not the Duma. Perhaps Ukraine should go ahead and vote first but allow only those with Ukrainian passports? The Moskali really think a vote would validate their theft? Did they really think it would be legal to vote in Ukraine using a Russian passport? As you said, they would just be left with another Crimea-style vote at the point of a gun.

            • Of the 13 sections in the agreement, The one relating to elections is no12. Returning control of the border comes before any elections take place. In fact they haven’t even implemented section 1, a full ceasefire.

              12. Based on the Law of Ukraine “On temporary Order of Local Self-Governance in Particular Districts of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts”, questions related to local elections will be discussed and agreed upon with representatives of particular districts of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts in the framework of the Trilateral Contact Group. Elections will be held in accordance with relevant OSCE standards and monitored by OSCE/ODIHR.

            • If everyone had been banned from travelling when this bat virus was found, we wouldn’t have these problems now.

              • Trump wanted to ban all travel, but the WHO, the Democrats and Germ-any said there is no reason for such measure since China contained the situation. …

                • There is still no full travel ban for Americans flying to China. American citizens and permanent residents can still travel to China and back to the United States. If they felt symptoms, the travelers are to stay home and contact a doctor. Some states also have a mandatory quarantine if arriving from abroad.

                • At the time T* sort of stopped the planes from China, it was already done by 38 other countries

But most countries imposed the restrictions immediately. By the time Trump’s restrictions took effect Feb. 2, an additional 15 countries had taken similar actions — and in some cases enacted even tougher bans. But in any case, that adds up to 38 countries taking action before or at the same time the U.S. restrictions were put in place.

                  • And that article still recommends following WHO guidelines and not banning travel, which has now been debunked many times. Point is, Trump was right and the Washington Post was wrong…as usual.

                    • It doesn’t bother me when any politician uses generalities to make a point. They all do it. It is true that Trump went against the biased media and corrupt WHO and closed a lot of travel and saved millions of lives. But now, the corrupt media blames him for not being early enough! The height of hypocrisy and you fell for it or your memory is as bad as theirs.
