Ukraine and Turkey preparing to sign free trade agreement

Ukraine and Turkey are preparing to sign a free trade agreement. Ukrainian Deputy Economy Minister Taras Kachka told the Turkish new Agency Anadolu that Kyiv and Ankara are “seeing light at the end of the tunnel.”

The Ukrainian diplomat noted that Kyiv expects to increase trade with Ankara. Moreover, in the last few years Turkey has been one of Ukraine’s five key trading partners.

One of the main contracts of the two sides may be a contract for the supply of diesel fuel. Now Turkey supplies large volumes of fuel to Ukraine, which will allow Kyiv to reconsider the “dependence” on supplies from Russia and Belarus.

Russian propagandists have already responded to the news from Turkey with the statement that Ukraine will have hard time working with Turkey. Russian Military journalist Yuri Kotenok, for example, is sure that Ankara will go as far as claiming control over Crimea.

Ankara has repeatedly said that it disagrees with the Kremlin on the issues of Crimea and Donbass.

Ankara also supported Kyiv’s “plan for de-occupation of Crimea” and promised to help Kyiv regain control over the peninsula.

  • More pathetic whining by the misfit bandits about losing more influence with Ukraine. I think Turkey understands Ukraine will be needed in NATO and they’re all for it.

Good. But, keep it focused on economics and keep immigration to an absolute minimum.

Also good. The less fuel mafia land sells abroad the worse for its economy, which is already in the doldrums.

I must agree with this. Erdogoon is a nut case and I would not put it past him. As a matter of fact, even if he doesn’t admit it publicly, I’m certain that he considers Crimea to be Turkish. That and many other regions that used to be a part of the Ottoman Empire.

  • Erdogan is not nuts. He’s an islamist but he happens to be well disposed towards Ukraine, which is a good thing, as Ukraine has so few friends. Turkey were allies with Ukraine before him and will continue to be so after he’s gone. There already has been lots of immigration. Many Turks live in Ukraine and vice versa. There are strong trade links and as a consequence, extensive air links.
The Tartars are a Turkic ethnic people, but are not Turks. They are the rightful owners of Crimea by virtue of their longevity, c. 600 years living in Crimea. They were the overwhelming majority on the peninsula until the 1920’s when Russia recommenced its usual practice of genocide and race replacement, which climaxed in Stalin’s mass genocide in ww2.
The thing is, Tatars are very loyal to Ukraine. They fight in the regular Ukrainian army and there were at least two Tatar battalions funded by Turkey. I’m not sure if they are now integrated in the main army or not.
Tatars can be found all over Ukraine, where they are respected for their hard working culture and tasty cuisine. They do not want Turkey or Russia on the peninsula; they just want to resume their old lives there which were so badly disrupted by the putinazis.
