Ukraine at TCG: Russia could face international isolation over failure to comply with Paris Summit agreements
Holding a new Normandy format summit by the end of the year is the only way for Russia to avoid international isolation over non-compliance with the Paris Summit agreements for which it has assumed responsibility at the highest level.
As the Ukrainian delegation to the Trilateral Contact Group posted on Facebook, Russian officials and a number of Russian media outlets are trying to provide resonant support for their attempt to legitimize representatives of the occupied Donbas, using the UN Security Council’s Arria formula, which would be boycotted by all OSCE participating states except Russia.
“In our opinion, Russia’s attempt to hold a high-profile event to legitimize organizations that are considered terrorist in Ukraine means that those responsible for Russia’s foreign policy understand the extent of their responsibility for only partial implementation and, perhaps, the failure to comply with last year’s Paris Summit agreements which mark the year on December 9,” the delegation said.
At the same time, it is noted that Russian diplomats are trying to shift their blame to Ukraine, France and Germany. In this context, the representatives of Ukraine noted that such attempts “fail over and over again and can only lead to the strengthening of ties between states and international organizations, which Russia is trying to accuse.”
“The Ukrainian delegation to the TCG recalls that holding a new Normandy format summit by the end of this year which would summarize the attempts to implement the agreements reached at the Paris Summit in December 2019 and which would allow to discuss plans for further implementation remains the only way for Russia to avoid international isolation and fulfill the agreements for which it has assumed responsibility at the highest level,” the Ukrainian delegation emphasized.
As reported, Ukraine and its partners thwarted Russia’s attempt to legitimize representatives of the occupied Donbas through the Arria formula meeting of the United Nations Security Council.
