Kravchuk demands that occupiers allow Red Cross to enter Izoliatsyya Donetsk prison and other dungeons
Head of the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG Leonid Kravchuk demands that CADLO immediately provide the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) with access to illegally detained citizens of Ukraine, in particular, to the former Izoliatsyya plant, where militants torture people. This is reported by the press service of the President.
Kravchuk notes that the agreements of leaders of the Normandy format to ensure full and unconditional access of the ICRC to the detainees, reached in Paris, are being implemented only by Ukraine.
Kravchuk recalled that CADLO and the Russian Federation do not fulfill the agreements on ensuring unhindered access for the ICRC, reached during the meeting of advisers to the leaders of the Normandy format in Berlin on September 11.
In this regard, Kravchuk stressed that “Ukraine provides full and unhindered access for the ICRC representatives to persons who are reasonably accused of committing crimes and are being held on the territory of Ukraine, as evidenced by letters and reports on the work of international humanitarian organizations in Ukraine”.
In particular, Kravchuk reported that on December 12, 2019, the Ukrainian parliament amended the Law of Ukraine “On Preliminary Detention” in order to ensure unhindered access for the ICRC representatives to persons in custody.
He noted that “Ukraine is deeply grateful to the ICRC and the OSCE, in particular, to head of the ICRC delegation in Ukraine, Mrs. Florence Gillette, as well as to coordinator of the working group on humanitarian issues in the TCG, Ambassador Tony Frisch, for consistent support of the fair demands of the Ukrainian side. At the same time, all appeals on the ICRC’s access to the detained citizens of Ukraine are grossly ignored and not carried out precisely by CADLO of the Russian Federation”.
“It is unacceptable and outrageous that out of numerous appeals to find out the fate and visit 175 Ukrainian citizens in CADLO, it was possible to receive an answer only in relation to one person”, – Kravchuk stated.
“No less indignant is the often inhuman conditions of detention of Ukrainian citizens, the lack of medical assistance, harsh treatment and often tortures. We demand to stop bullying our citizens and ensure access to them for the ICRC representatives”, – Kravchuk added.
He also stressed that access should be provided, among other things, “to the secret Donetsk Izoliatsyya prison”, notorious for tortures of Ukrainians and inhuman conditions of detention, and all other dungeons”.
