The president of the Russian Federation stressed the inadmissibility of unfounded accusations in connection with the poisoning of opposition politicians
In a telephone conversation with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin expressed interest in investigating the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. This was reported by the press service of the Kremlin.
“The situation surrounding the hospitalization of Oleksiy Navalny was also discussed. The Russian side stressed the inadmissibility of hasty and unfounded accusations in this regard and expressed the interest in a thorough and unbiased investigation of all the circumstances of the incident,” the statement said.
As we reported earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Germany’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Heiko Maas are demanding that the Russian authorities investigate and punish those responsible for the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
“Given Mr. Navalny’s prominent role in the political opposition in Russia, the authorities are now urging to clarify this act to the smallest detail – and in full transparency. Those responsible must be identified and brought to justice,” their joint statement said.
