Canada consistently supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and highly appreciates the achievements of the Ukrainian-Canadian community.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said this in a statement on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Today, we celebrate the close people-to-people connections, cultural ties, and values that unite Canada and Ukraine. We look forward to continuing to build our relationship as we advance our shared priorities and we reaffirm our steadfast commitment to support Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Trudeau stressed.

He recalled that over 1.3 million Canadian citizens are of Ukrainian descent. “Through their unique culture, traditions, and language, members of the Ukrainian-Canadian community continue to make Canada a better place, every day,” the PM said.

At the same time, Trudeau noted that this year has been difficult for people of both countries. “The Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752 tragedy and the COVID-19 pandemic have taken the lives of so many Canadians and Ukrainians, and changed the lives of countless others. The COVID‑19 pandemic has had significant economic, health, and social impacts on both of our people. These challenges serve to remind us of the importance of solidarity and cooperation as we work to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of Ukrainians and Canadians,” the PM summed up.

As reported, Ukraine received Independence Day greetings from the presidents of the United States, France, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Slovakia, the Prime Minister of Canada, as well as Pope Francis, Queen Elizabeth II and other world leaders.

  • Ukrainian diaspora of 1.3m? That means 260,000 of fighting age and maybe 1% of them has military training. That’s 2600, plus untrained men who want to volunteer.
Countries like Canada, the US and any others with a large diaspora of Ukrainians could contribute to an international volunteer regiment to work alongside Ukr regulars.
This could come to 10,000 fighters or more, plus support staff. The cost to be met by the contributing country, which should also pitch in with some modern weapons. Each country could guarantee to keep the jobs open for the volunteers when they return.
This would send out a message to the fascist rodent that his actions are no longer tolerated. More importantly it would show that the world finally understands the seriousness of the situation and that any putler ‘ceasefires’ are just opportunies for restocking, regrouping and retraining for the occupier.

      • I’d given up on the ones in Russia. If they remain there after all the theft and mass murder of the nazi shitweasel, they must surely have chosen to back Russia? Fuckem!

        • Yeah. Probably ethnic ruSSians and commies who turned their backs on Ukraine. Let them rot in the shithole. Wouldn’t be surprised these traitors return to Ukraine once the economy is booming (after Zelensky, presumably). And then all those ‘new’ ruSSians with RF PPs, Ukraine will/must offer them to re-obtain their ukrainian citizenship.
