Tymoshenko has COVID-19, the condition is assessed as serious

The leader of the Batkivshchyna party and parliamentary faction, Yulia Tymoshenko, contracted the COVID-19 coronavirus, her condition is assessed as grave, said the politician’s press secretary Marina Soroka.

“Yes, unfortunately this is true. The test showed that Yulia Vladimirovna has COVID-19. The condition is assessed as serious. The temperature is up to 39. She is fighting!”, Soroka wrote on her Facebook page on Sunday afternoon.

Former Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko has tested positive for the novel coronavirus and is in serious condition with a fever, her party’s spokeswoman said on Sunday.

Tymoshenko, 59, who twice served as premier before her defeat in the 2010 presidential election, became the first high-profile Ukrainian politician known to have contracted COVID-19. Parliament has been on summer vacation since mid-July.

“Her condition is assessed as serious, her temperature is up to 39 (Celsius),” the spokeswoman for her Fatherland party said, declining to say whether Tymoshenko had been hospitalised or give further detail.

Earlier today, RBC-Ukraine, citing reliable sources, wrote that Tymoshenko had contracted the coronavirus. Also, this information was confirmed by ex-MP Ihor Mosiychuk on Facebook.

It was reported that, together with the leader of Batkivshchyna, her daughter Yevgenia and her husband, Artur Chechetkin, fell ill with coronavirus.

  • When the bat pox was inflicted upon us by the chicoms, it was perhaps understandable that high profile people, including politicians, would be at risk because of the number of contacts they make. But for someone like her to get it now seems like reckless behaviour or possibly could it even have been inflicted on her by some malign entity?
It is a foul and terrifying affliction and I hope she gets some superb treatment.
I know of one 62 year old female who likely contracted the damn thing from working in an outside market. She was put on a ventilator and did not recover. Ventilators are to be avoided unless the situation is absolutely desperate.
Good luck to this warrior woman.

  • Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has tested positive for the coronavirus and is in serious condition with a fever, her party’s spokeswoman said on August 23.

Marina Soroka, a spokeswoman for the Fatherland Party, confirmed that the 59-year-old Tymoshenko is ill, saying on Facebook, “Yes, unfortunately, it’s correct,” adding that she is “fighting” with a temperature of 39 degrees. She did not say whether Tymoshenko had been hospitalized.

Tymoshenko is the first high-profile Ukrainian politician known to have contracted COVID-19.

Ukraine experienced a sharp rise in coronavirus infections this week. On August 22 the country reported a 24-hour total of 2,328 new cases, bringing the total since the pandemic began to 107,379, including 2,313 deaths, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Tymoshenko rose to prominence as co-leader of Ukraine’s Orange Revolution in 2004 amid widespread protests against corruption and election rigging.

Tymoshenko ran for president in 2010 and lost to Russian-backed Viktor Yanukovych and was imprisoned from 2011 to 2014 on abuse-of-office charges that the international community widely condemned as politically motivated.

She was freed from prison in early 2014 after Yanukovych was toppled in a popular uprising that put Ukraine on a path toward closer ties with the European Union and the United States.
