The opposition coordinating council has been formed only partially so far. It included, in particular, the Nobel laureate in literature Svetlana Aleksievich and representatives of the election headquarters of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and Viktor Babariko. The first working meeting of the council is scheduled for August 19.
Alexander Lukashenko accuses the opposition coordination council of trying to seize power in Belarus. He also said that the opposition is putting forward a program that provides for the withdrawal of Belarus from the Union State, the restoration of border control with Russia and a course towards joining NATO.
The coordinating council accused Lukashenka of “trying to manipulate and deceive” and said that they were not going to leave the allied structures with Russia and violate international agreements.
