YouTube blocked Russian TV channel Tsargrad
The channel’s founder, Konstantin Malofeev, is under sanctions over allegations of financing the war in Donbas.
Google-owned YouTube video hosting blocked the account of the Russian TV channel Tsargrad on the night of July 28 without the possibility of recovery. This was reported by Google to Russia’s Interfax.
The channel’s account was blocked due to violations of the law on sanctions and trade rules. The founder of the Tsargrad TV channel is Konstantin Malofeev , who is accused of financing the war in Donbas. It has been under sanctions from the European Union, the United States and Canada since 2014.
” Google complies with all laws on sanctions and compliance with trade rules. If we find that the account violates these laws, we take appropriate action , “the company said.
The channel’s editor Daryna Tokareva announced her intention to appeal YouTube’s decision in court.
Tsargrad is a Russian news channel known for its support of militants in the Donbas and the Russian military fighting against Ukraine. The channel broadcast interviews with the leader of Russian militants Igor Girkin (Strelkov), Nazi Alexei Milchakov and others. The TV channel started broadcasting in 2015. He positions himself as “the first Russian conservative information-analytical TV channel”, from the end of 2017 he stopped broadcasting and went completely online.
In 2017, the Tsargrad TV channel launched an action to expel members of the LGBT community outside the Russian Federation .
