US live through complete collapse of concept of freedom of speech, says diplomat ZACHAROVA

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman believes that the US currently undergoes mass rewriting of concepts and distortion of meanings of words

MOSCOW, July 7. /TASS/. The freedom of speech and media in its true sense is no longer existent in the US, with the myth that the Americans sustained for many years being now completely busted, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during an online conference Tuesday.

“One more regrettable trend or rather a fait accompli is the collapse of the myth of the freedom of press, of any regulating norms, rules, principles, proclaimed in the US regarding the freedom of speech, the media and so on. We witnessed the fall of the colossus, the crash of everything that they allegedly built there for many years, and what they proposed to the entire world as an example. All this is not only dysfunctional, it has all simply tumbled down,” the diplomat pointed out.

According to her, the Americans will now have to work to once again to retrieve the concept of the freedom of the media and protection of the journalists’ rights.

“At this point, everything there went down so badly that even the very concept of the freedom of media is completely gone, in my opinion,” the diplomat said.

She explained that the US currently undergoes mass rewriting of concepts and distortion of meanings of words; expressions are banned that “even yesterday were commonplace and uncontested.”

“We see bans on movies, on books, dismantling of monuments that just yesterday were an icon of the US,” the spokeswoman said.

According to Zakharova, the US enjoys a colossal influence on the global media, so these negative trends will be felt everywhere. “It is just that this destructive wave has not reached [other countries], but one way or another, the world is yet to experience all this,” she concluded.

  • “We see bans on movies, on books, dismantling of monuments…”

I guess I’ve been asleep for several days. As an American I have not heard of any banning or burning books or movies (unlike Moskovia) and the toppling of monuments are in itself a form of freedom of speech. Though I do not condone toppling statues without the permission of the locality.

As usual, the Bike has everything backwards and serves only as a distraction or mild justification for what they are doing. As an example, only one person can protest at a time in Moskovia and he/she will probably be taken, beaten and imprisoned for it.

    • What do you think of the erosion of liberties like the 1st amendment. I’ve watched many 1st amendment auditors on YouTube like Amaganssett press, Johnny 5-0, Big Nick etc. All they have in common is a Police force that use threats and intimidation and illegal detainment, to either try to identify or trespass citizens off public property, all for the fearful act of filming in public.

      Is that freedom ??

      • I guess I’m not following you on this one. The police I know don’t threaten or intimidate, they just arrest your ass and put you in jail. If these people that thrive on YouTube aren’t in jail I suppose they’re doing just fine. As far as “illegal detainment” you’ll have to give some examples if you’re talking about the USA. Those days are LONG over with here unless you’re in the Trump administration ;))

        • What I meant by illegal detainment is instances where a law abiding citizen is forced to provide identification or hi to jail for “failure to identify” which in of itself isn’t a crime unless you have been lawfully arrested.
I don’t believe it’s a problem of a police force in a single country though. It’s widespread all over the world. Some worse than others. I’m sure Police from the former Soviet Union are probably worse as communism’ and repression of human eights often go hand in hand.

I am however opposed to the rabid left wing ideologies that are devastating Democrat run cities, calls to defund the police and the general push towards feelings enforcement and not law enforcement.

          • Not to mention the medieval culture that Putin has sustained and encouraged the police force to arrest people without charges and then make up charges after beating them. Or kidnapping people that just disappear forever.

  • Perhaps the Kremlin bike would care to explain how the US is in the 45th position in the freedom of press index, compared to the shitholes lofty position of 149th? I can’t remember the last time a journalist fell out of an apartment window after criticizing the POTUS.

  • This from a country were liberians are jailed as extremists and foreign languages are outlawed.
And it is illegal to criticize the government.
Journalist die and are jailed all of the time.
Political opponents and arrested and jailed.
    and economic news is classified.
America has issues. Russia is an Orwellian nightmare

“The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just around the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now you begin to understand me.”

Tell me this doesn’t sound like Putin’s Russia.
