Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday said the world owed the Soviet Union a debt of gratitude for its contribution to the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II.
The Russian leader made the comments at the beginning of a massive military parade through Red Square in Moscow to mark the 75th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in World War II.
“It is impossible even to imagine what the world would be if the Red Army hadn’t come to defend it,” Putin said in an address to thousands of troops gathered to participate in the annual Victory Day parade.
Soviet soldiers “freed European countries from invaders, put an end to the terrible tragedy of the Holocaust, saved the German people from Nazism, from its deadly ideology,” Putin said.
“Our duty is to keep this in mind,” he said during the televised address, urging Russians to remember that the main burden of the fight against Nazism had fallen on the Soviet Union.
The Russian president was forced to postpone the country’s traditional May 9 Victory Day celebrations due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it was the first mass event rescheduled by the Kremlin after it eased lockdown measures.
This year’s parade, marking 75 years since the Soviet Union’s defeat of Nazi Germany features some 14,000 troops from 13 countries, as well as vintage equipment and the latest military hardware showing off Russia’s fighting capabilities.
In his two decades in office, Putin has harnessed the legacy of the Soviet Union’s victory in World War II to boost patriotic sentiment and support for his government.
Ahead of the parade, he slammed the West for “insulting Russia” by playing down the U.S.S.R.’s role in winning the war.

I find it disgusting that it is always phrased as though Communist Russia won the war by itself. Their RTrolls keep saying the same thing. After supporting the war they want to rewrite history and claim they saved the world. Without food and metal from the US, and British and American air cover the Moskali ground troops would not have even made it to Berlin.
I would be willing to split the victory 3 ways, British, American and Soviet with an asterisk noting the alliance that started the damn thing in the beginning: Molotov-Ribbentrop pact to divide Europe between the two authoritarian regimes.
The British arctic convoys were Russia’s lifeline. Thousands of our men and hundreds of ships were lost in the cause of helping those bastards who started WW2.

Let’s correct that bullshit : ‘invaded Eastern Europe, replacing one totalitarian occupier with another. In the process, depriving those it occupied of their freedom and inflicting 45 years of its own brand of misery and hopelessness.’
The anti-semitism of the nazis was inspired by the Russian forgery; ‘the protocols of the elders of zion’.
Ironically, the dictator responsible for the occupation of Eastern Europe; Stalin, was planning his own holocaust only 8 years later. He died because he had rounded up so many Jewish doctors that his minions could not find anyone to treat him in time.
Stalin was never the sharpest knife in the drawer. Only a complete imbecile would kill off all his top generals, as he did in his Great Purge between 1936/38, then go to war.
So, parts of Europe were freed from shit, which was promptly replaced with diarrhea. And, these fools are celebrating this stinky event. Sorry for the pun…
