Germany may take action against Russia due to a hacker attack on the Bundestag website – Merkel
Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the German prosecutor’s office has enough evidence of Russia’s involvement in the hacker attack in 2015.
She stated this in response to questions from members of the Bundestag on May 13, writes DW .
According to Merkel, it was an episode of a “hybrid war”, not a coincidence. Germany reserves the right to take “measures, including against Russia,” in response to such “outrageous” actions, the chancellor said.
Angela Merkel noted that part of Russia’s “hybrid war” is “disorientation” and “distortion of facts.” This must be taken into account, the chancellor added.
At the same time, she said, she will continue to try to maintain good relations with Russia, so she considers it necessary to make diplomatic efforts. Although such incidents hinder “trusting cooperation”.
It will be recalled that, according to Spiegel magazine, as a result of a cyber attack on the Bundestag server, hackers, in particular, gained access to Angela Merkel’s e-mail data for the period from 2012 to 2015. The German press reported that the prosecutor’s office suspects Russian military intelligence of organizing a cyberattack.
