Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated US President Donald Trump, French leader Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, as well as leaders of post-Soviet countries and the peoples of Ukraine and Georgia on Victory Day. This became known from the press service of the Kremlin.
In a message to the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin emphasized that “Russia keeps a grateful memory of the contribution of the Allies in the anti-Hitler coalition to the common victory, they will never forget about the Soviet-American military alliance.”
In an address to the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, the Russian president, in particular, recalled the exploit of the Normandy-Niemen squadron pilots fighting on the Soviet-German front, as well as the French Resistance movement.
In his congratulations to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Putin expressed confidence that “the memory of the military fraternity of the war will help develop a constructive Russian-British dialogue and interaction in the fight against threats and challenges of our time.”
In addition, the Russian leader sent congratulatory messages to the leaders and citizens of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, occupied Abkhazia, South Ossetia, as well as the peoples of Georgia and Ukraine on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory World War II.
Congratulations to the presidents of Ukraine and Georgia were not mentioned.
Recall, in Ukraine, May 8 is the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation, May 9 is the Day of Victory over Nazism in World War II.
