Video conference of Normandy format foreign ministers scheduled for next week
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the upcoming talks in the form of a video conference of the Normandy Four foreign ministers are unlikely to bring results. Lavrov said this in an interview on Channel One, TASS reports.
According to the minister, at a video conference the foreign ministers will discuss the implementation of the agreements reached by the leaders of the Normandy Four in December 2019 in Paris.
“I foresee a probably, probably, important conversation at the ministerial level, because we have talked about all this many times in Germany and France,” he said.
“They asked them to take on the responsibility to nevertheless encourage the Ukrainian authorities to work honestly and constructively. But frankly, I don’t expect any result from this video conference, except that the Ukrainian colleagues will probably say again: “Let’s get together soon in Berlin,” the Russian Foreign Minister said.
Lavrov noted that of all the agreements of the last Normandy meeting one was completed: an exchange of held persons took place.
“Everything else that was discussed in Paris, to our great regret, was not fulfilled, and not through fault or due to the lack of goodwill on the part of Donetsk and Lugansk,” he stressed
Also, according to him, in order to achieve a reduction in violations of the ceasefire regime and to do so with guarantee, there is a simple way – to ensure the separation of forces and assets.
In addition, Lavrov reproached Kyiv for ‘sabotage’ due to the fact that the Steinmeier formula was not enshrined in Ukrainian legislation, despite its approval by the TAG in October 2019.
“We are witnessing complete sabotage in the political part of the Paris agreements, where President Zelensky committed himself to finally achieve the inclusion of the Steinmeier formula in Ukrainian legislation. And the second is to start discussing all legal aspects of ensuring the special political status of Donbass on an ongoing basis in Ukrainian legislation. The Ukrainian side does not want to talk about these topics,” he added.
As we reported before, the meeting in the Normandy Format will take place in the video-conference mode
