The Health Department of Moscow’s city government has predicted that within the next two or three weeks, Russia’s capital may see a shortage of hospital beds in facilities designated for COVID-19 patients.

Department officials described the situation surrounding the coronavirus pandemic in the city as “tense.” “The daily counts of new coronavirus cases remain high,” they reported.

Within the next 10 days, Moscow plans to redesignate 24 more inpatient facilities for the treatment of suspected coronavirus patients. That change will bring the total number of COVID-19 beds in the city to 21,000. As of April 14, there were 21,102 confirmed coronavirus cases in Moscow; of course, not all of those cases simultaneously require hospitalization.
