UKRAINE Servant of the People MP Leaks Video Seemingly Implicating Brother of Presidential Chief-of-Staff in Corruption
Geo Leros, an MP from the ruling Servant of the People party, leaked on March 29 a video seemingly showing the brother of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s chief-of-staff, Andriy Yermak, attempting to sell government positions for personal profit.
In a Facebook post, Leros wrote that he had obtained “video evidence of how Yermak, through this brother, peddles government posts, creates his own programs in law enforcement bodies and defense, and of course, profits off the government.”
Some of the alleged posts for sale were the Kyiv customs agency, the Ministry of Infrastructure, and the Ukrainian railway company Ukrzaliznytsia. The video also shows conversations about the Ukraine television channel and the Expocenter of Ukraine.
The videos carry timestamps of August 20, 2019, September 16 and 23, 2019, and October 3, 2019.
An unidentified voice on the video recording is heard saying “You mean, you didn’t receive any information about me? I came here because I was told that this question was already being handled.”
The chief-of-staff, in response to the video, has stated that there will be submitted a request to the Security Agency of Ukraine and the State Bureau of Investigations to investigate these accusations.
“I want there to be an all-sides investigation of the circumstances of these recordings, with priority given to their trustworthiness, as well as who did this under who’s orders, and how these videos ended up with Geo Leros,” wrote Yermak on a Facebook post.
Yermak went on to defend his brother, Denys, who he says traveled to the conflict zone in the Donbas in 2014 as a volunteer. “Myself and my family are honest and law-abiding people. I won’t allow anyone to smear us. Geo Leros, you yourself, and myself, and everyone who understands this situation know why and in whose interests you’re working and writing in. If we were to talk about ‘red lines’ that define how moral degradation occurs, then this is it. And you’ve crossed them,” added Yermak.
Yermak then accused Leros of “abandoning the important shared goals that the Servant of the People party went to elections with.”
