According to Japanese Olympic Committee President, the length of the delay would be a difficult issue to resolve
On Monday, March 23, President of Japanese Olympic Committee President Yasuhiro Yamashita stated that the International Olympic Committee would postpone Tokyo Olympics if it was a decision to protect the safety of athletes, The Japan Times reports.
“Both the IOC and the organizing committee have put the security and safety of the athletes as their top priority,” he said.
According to Yamashita, Japan has been aiming to start the competition on July 24. “But as the coronavirus keeps spreading, I understand that we have to take postponement into consideration from that standpoint,” Japanese Olympic Committee President stated.
He also noted that the length of the delay would be a difficult issue to resolve.
As we reported earlier, the UEFA decided to delay the European football championship (Euro 2020) until the next year’s summer.
The competition was supposed to kick off in 12 European cities on June 12. Now, the new estimated date is June 11, 2021.
As of now, all football competitions are suspended worldwide. Quarantine is imposed in many cubs.
