Putin’s new aide Kozak, unlike his predecessor, is neither a political person nor a schemer, Ponomarev says.
Former member of the Russian State Duma Ilya Ponomarev has said the resignation of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aide Vladislav Surkov may indicate the Russian president’s intention to “surrender Donbas” to Ukraine.
The Russian politician believes the issue of Surkov’s resignation was decided at the Normandy Four summit in Paris on December 9, 2019.
“It was clear from Surkov’s reaction that the Ukrainian side had outplayed him, because he had promised Putin that various documents would be signed, but that didn’t happen… So they appointed Dmitry Kozak, who had been relieved of his duties in government, who was responsible for gas negotiations. So that he further develops this line,” he told the Ukrainian-registered Apostrophe online media outlet.
Putin’s new aide Kozak, unlike his predecessor, is not a political person and not a schemer, Ponomarev says.
“Kozak is definitely not the person who will be building up the ‘Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics’ (‘DPR’ and ‘LPR’). Kozak’s task is to tie up loose ends. The fact that Kozak is being appointed is a 100% sign what Putin wants… and he will surrender both the ‘DPR’ and the ‘LPR.’ Now the new person’s task is to achieve the most acceptable conditions, to reach an agreement…,” the Russian politician said.

It ain’t so simple as that. We have billions of dollars Russia owe Ukraine for the destrucion of the infrastructure in Donbas, then we have the war crimes committed by Muscovy on Ukrainian soil, last but not least, the MH17 trial is on the horizon. Putin is not going to get away with it that easy. “The Ukrainians beat us, so I will give the shithole back, sanctions will be lifted, and everyone can live happily ever after”.
I only believe what i see. So far they continue to shoot at ukrainian forces. Also, a surrender may just mean to leave it, and the ‘militants’ are on their own. This would only mean more mayhem…
If Muscovy did pull out, Ukraine would take Donbas back in a week. Muscovy would withdraw all the “militants” and weapons, leaving a few idiots in Donbas.
Still heavily armed idiots, hiding behind hospitals and Kindergartens. Could get messy even if they are defeated in the end.
What will they fight with? All those weapons found in mines and corner shops would be returned.
Would they? I would hope so, but since Russia say it’s not their hardware, i doubt it.
“…the new person’s task is to achieve the most acceptable conditions…”
Considering you invaded for the sole reason of creating a distraction for your invasion of the Crimea, the only condition can be a full withdrawal from both territories and pay enormous compensation. If they squeak about it, add more conditions…
