Smugglers tried to bring 7,800 counterfeit Rubik’s Cubes to Ukraine. Maksym Nefedov, the head of the State Customs Service of Ukraine reported that on his Facebook page.

“It’s the top illegal traffic case of the week. Odesa custom office workers discovered almost 8,000 counterfeit Rubik’s Cubes! Actually, it’s the brand of British Rubik’s Brand Limited that issues the official puzzles created by Hungarian sculptor Erno Rubik”, reads the message.Related: Head of customs service announced dismissal of 500 customs officers

Nefedov also claimed that the authorized representative of the copyright holder sent his conclusion to the Customs Office and claimed that the said puzzles were marked with the logo that looks very much like the original ones, which belong to Rubik’s Brand Limited. 

Currently, 7,800 counterfeit Rubik’s Cubes are seized. The copyright holder will decide what to do with these next. The price of original goods that could be replaced from the market by the faked product made some USD 125,000. The smugglers may face the fine in the amount of some USD 700 and confiscation of all counterfeit goods.
