Transit of Russian gas through Ukraine has decreased by 5 times since beginning of year

Since the beginning of 2020, the average transit volumes of Russian gas through the Ukrainian gas transportation system have decreased by 5.3 times. This became known from the data published on the website of the company “Operator of the GTS of Ukraine”.
The average gas transit through Ukraine in December 2019 reached the level of 261 million cubic meters. On December 31, gas pumped up 220.05 million cubic meters. On January 1, only 49.3 million cubic meters of gas passed through the Ukrainian gas transportation system, and up to 38.8 million cubic meters on January 2.
As we reported, Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Honcharuk said that Ukraine, Russia and the EU have signed a new gas contract for 5 years with the possibility of prolonging it for 10 years
The prime minister noted the coordinated work of the government and thanked his colleagues for their work.

Let me guess, the agreement does not specify the amount of gas that will be pumped to/through Ukraine…

Good because the contract is “pay or pump” for a set fee regardless of volume so it does not matter how much they do or do not pump.
“The new deal has a “pump or pay” clause, meaning Russia must pay the minimum gas-transit fee even if it doesn’t pump the contracted volumes through Ukraine, said Yuriy Vitrenko, executive director of Ukrainian state-run Naftogaz, on Facebook.”

So the contract is a pretty good one. NOt great but pretty good.
