President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky in relations with the head of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin is better at defending his position than his predecessor Petro Poroshenko, said US Chargé d’Affaires to Ukraine William Taylor.
“ As for whether the object is Ukraine or the subject, it seems to me that Ukraine with this administration takes a more confident position with regard to Mr. Putin. Four telephone conversations, a personal meeting, in which the confrontation was at least equal, give the impression that Zelensky defended his position better than Mr. Poroshenko did, ”Taylor said in an interview with Zerkal of the week .
“ Zelensky, and this is obvious, is aware that there are risks in his policy towards Russia, but if you want to stop the war, if you want Russian soldiers to no longer kill Ukrainian soldiers, you need to take risks. Zelensky has to negotiate with Vladimir Putin, while the Ukrainian president knows what he wants to achieve, but I’m afraid he still doesn’t fully understand how far he can go in negotiations with the Kremlin, ”Taylor emphasized.
In January 2020, Taylor will leave the post of Chargé d’Affaires of the United States in Ukraine. He will be replaced by Christina Queen.
