Naftogaz executive director: Return of assets in Crimea was not discussed at gas transit negotiations

According to Vitrenko, discussing assets of Naftogaz in Crimea “is a separate process”

The issue of returning Naftogaz assets located in Crimea annexed by the Russian Federation was not raised during negotiations on gas transit through Ukraine. The executive director of Naftogaz Yuri Vitrenko said this at a briefing in President’s Office.

“Talking about arbitration on Crimean assets belonging to the Naftogaz group: in no way this is mentioned in this protocol. This is a separate process. A party to this process is the state of the Russian Federation, which is responsible for the relevant claims of Naftogaz. And this protocol does not mention it in any way,” he noted.

Earlier Minister of Energy Oleksiy Orzhel announced that Ukraine, within the framework of package agreements, will withdraw all gas claims against Russia; this decision does not apply only to the Stockholm arbitration

“We will resolve the issue of future arbitrations. This is a potential win, but we already have a vision of what transit arrangements are, so in this case a package solution involves a review of positions regarding future arbitrations. That is, a decision on 3 billion is clearly defined, decisions on others will be recalled directly within the package,” – he said.
