Ukraine supports EC’s proposal for new gas transit with Russia – Minister Orzhel

The EC proposes a 10-year contract for 60 bcm of gas annually.

Ukrainian Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection Oleksiy Orzhel says Ukraine has supported the proposal put forth by the European Commission (EC) on amounts and timeframe of a new gas transit contract with the Russian Federation.

“We fully support the position of our European partners, given the clear position of Ukraine regarding ensuring security of supplies in the region, ensuring stable supplies to the European gas markets, as well as stable volumes necessary for the operation of the Ukrainian gas transportation system,” he said after a new round of trilateral gas talks in Brussels on October 28.

According to him, the EC’s proposal is based on a 10-year contract on the transit of 60 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas per year with a possible increase to 90 bcm.

He also added that the contract should be signed in line with European laws.

According to UNIAN, prior to the trilateral talks of Ukraine, the EU and Russia on gas transit, Orzhel met with Vice-President of the European Commission for the Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič.

  1. This is part of the official EU statement yesterday.

“These parameters were acceptable to our Ukrainian partners who were ready to engage on the basis of our proposal. Unfortunately, the Russian delegation was not prepared to do the same at this moment – and I underline at this moment.”

This is the headline today from the Kremlin lie machine called TASS

“Naftogaz says not ready to discuss package of gas deals with Russia yet.”
