The Government of the Russian Federation has decided to recognize the citizens of Ukraine as native speakers of Russian
The Government of the Russian Federation has approved the recognition of citizens of Ukraine and Belarus as native speakers of Russian without examinations. This status affects the receipt of a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation.
This is stated on the website of the Russian government.
Thus, the status of a native speaker of the Russian language gives the right to obtain a residence permit in Russia, as well as citizenship in a simplified manner. Owners of this status do not need to live in the country for five years to obtain a passport, reminds Public Radio.
Previously, the status of native speakers could be obtained without interview only by those whose parents were permanently resident in the Russian Federation or the territory of the Soviet Union, but within the current border of Russia.
It is known that in June 2019 in Russia began to issue Russian passports to residents of the occupied territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine considers this a provocation.
It should be reminded that more than 50% of Ukrainians do not support granting the status of a second state language to the Russian language .
