Modern Russia, like the terrorist threat, pose a real danger to the European Union, although they should not be compared with each other.
The corresponding statement was made by the candidate for the post of EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, former Foreign Minister of Spain Josep Borrell.
As an example illustrating the existence of this threat, he cited the joint military presence of NATO member states on the eastern flank, in particular in the Baltic states.
“If there is no threat, then why are the Canadian and Spanish military working together (in patrolling the Baltic states)?” He asked.
At the same time, the Spanish diplomat avoided answering the question of what constitutes a great threat to the EU – Russia or world terrorism, noting that underestimating the terrorist threat is unacceptable.
However, Borrell advocated the continuation of anti-Russian sanctions. “We must continue sanctions against Russia until a tectonic change occurs,” he said.
Reportedly, Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell will become the new EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy.
In May 2019, in an interview with the Spanish press, Borrell called Russia “the old enemy of Spain, reaffirming himself”, which caused outrage at Russian President Vladimir Putin, who had to respond to a statement by the Spanish minister.

This guy sounds like he won’t be another Mogherini. Let’s see if he changes anything regarding Muscovy, like increasing the budget for Stratcom. He needs to avoid answering questions, Russia and world terrorism are best friends, one and the same.
I doubt he will make it. The big eurocompanies want to do business with the swamp at all cost.
No doubt, but at least he’s not grovelling to Putin like the Italian bitch.
Coming on 6 years since Maidan, Spain has been very quiet. The only thing I can remember was a small Russian mafia ring getting busted there. Maybe this clever and honest man get can the position and change all that. We need more people that are not afraid to call a spade, a spade.
‘cal’ it whatever you like. 😂
“In May 2019, in an interview with the Spanish press, Borrell called Russia “the old enemy of Spain, reaffirming himself”…..
Good guy. Which means he probably won’t be hired. Spain has a leftist regime and is a putlerite country. Spain, like Europe, pretends to be social democratic but regularly flirts with totalitarian ideologies such as communism and fascism. Which is why from a British standpoint, no EU government is to be trusted except Pribaltika, Poland and maybe Denmark: cheers Mike!
