Over 70% of Ukrainians against sale of farmland

Some 81% of Ukrainians oppose the sale of agricultural land to foreigners, whereas only 13% support the idea, according to a survey conducted by the Rating sociological group.

According to the group’s leader, Oleksiy Antypovych, in general, the introduction of the agricultural land market is supported only by 19% of respondents, 73% of respondents are against this initiative, and 8% were undecided.

Even among younger and wealthier respondents, owners of a land plot who cultivate it independently, the number of those opposing the introduction of the land market exceeds 60%.

Some 74% of respondents believe that the decision to introduce the sale of agricultural land in Ukraine should be taken at a nationwide referendum.

Some 58% of respondents said that farmland should be state-owned, like in Canada or Israel. Some 22% are not against the introduction of such a land market model as in Italy where arable land can be sold or bought.

A total of 2,000 respondents older than 18 years were interviewed. The poll’s margin of error does not exceed 2.2%. The study was conducted from September 28 to October 1, 2019.

  1. Yeah, oligarch controlled TV is brainwashing the public over this. Ukraine are sitting on a gold mine, but investors are needed to buy the land and create jobs. The oligarchs don’t want to invest, or face competition from large companies.

  2. In Canada, farmlands are not state owned. There is a difference between surface rights and subsurface rights. Surface rights applies to any land purchased for residential, agriculture or commercial use. Residential acreage and farmers get water rights for domestic use or watering cattle.
Subsurface pertains to mineral rights, which the guvment claimed after WW1 to claim the royalties.
Surface owners can charge access rights for access to oil and gas wells.

  3. Make the land available for sale but, please, only to Ukrainians. Do not let foreigners by land, if you do china will soon own Ukraine.
