Ukraine’s ex-FM Klimkin: “Only idiots believe in a global agreement with Putin”

The ex-minister says the ceasefire in Donbas is not enough to call it peace.

Former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin says that a global peace agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin is impossible. “We certainly need an international agreement. But only idiots believe in a global agreement with Putin, I think. None of those I know in the West believes in this. Certainly, work must be done,” Klimkin said on Channel 1+1.

The ex-minister also praised the results of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s recent visit to the United States. “Unfortunately or perhaps fortunately, in the history of the United States, Ukraine will now be associated with Chornobyl [the nuclear disaster in 1986], with the Maidan [the Revolution of Dignity late in 2013-early in 2014] and [U.S. President Donald Trump’s] impeachment. With these three things,” he said. “As for future developments, this will pull us into a very negative spiral. But as of today, I believe, President Zelensky has come out of this situation, except Europe, without losses and even with a gain,” Klimkin said.

“What is peace? Peace is when both Crimea and Donbas [currently occupied by Russia] are returned to us,” he said. “Ceasing fire – yes, steps on Donbas – yes, but it should not be called ‘peace.'” “Firstly, we’ll have to become stronger, Russia will have to become weaker, and we will have to retain our friends. If you ask me – this is my peace formula,” he said. As UNIAN reported earlier, Trump said he hoped that Zelensky and Putin would meet and “solve their problem.”

“I really hope that Russia, because I really believe that President [Vladimir] Putin would like to do something, and I really hope that you and President Putin get together and can solve your problem [the end of the Russian occupation of parts of Ukraine]. That would be a tremendous achievement, and I know you’re trying to do that,” the U.S. president said at a bilateral meeting with Zelensky in New York City on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on September 25.

  1. ‘I really hope that you and President Putin get together and can solve your problem….’
Of all the fatuous things that Trump had said, this has to be one of the most cringeworthy. The oaf is creating a fantasy for US viewers that there has been a terrible fraternal misunderstanding with blame shared equally. Ridiculous! Klimkin doesn’t buy this bullshit and neither should anyone else.
As I said previously, impeachment will help only putler and reinforce wrong and negative stereotypes about Ukraine in the minds of Joe Sixpack and Ukraine could end up being shunned both by the Dems and the GOP.

    • It also threatens the possibility that Ukraine will end up being “as bad as” the Russia. As you said, it could end up with people just throwing up their arms and thinking they’re both bad. The press is still running with the fake whistleblower which definitely hurts Ukraine.

What is your opinion?
