Trump says EU should spend “much more” on backing Ukraine

The U.S. House of Representatives on September 19 passed a legislative act that would allow providing US$250 million in military aid to Ukraine.

U.S. President Donald Trump says the European Union should spend “much more” on backing Ukraine. “Ukraine has got a lot of problems. < > We backed — I backed Ukraine from the beginning. But I’m very upset that other countries aren’t doing the same.

Germany should be spending much more. France, all of the European Union should be spending money. Why are we spending money and they’re not? Or least they’re spending very little by comparison,” he told journalists on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, D.C., before Marine One departure on September 22.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the U.S. House of Representatives on September 19 passed a legislative act that would allow providing US$250 million in military aid to Ukraine. In particular, funding under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which is expiring on September 30, 2019, could be extended for another year.

It was also reported that the U.S. Department of State authorized the allocation of security assistance for Ukraine in the amount of US$141.5 million, which includes funding for sniper rifles and grenade launchers.

  1. This demonstrates a poor understanding of the situation. Ukraine is entirely dependent on America for help against Russia. The EU supports Russia and does not give a monkey’s wank for Ukraine. Look at Europe’s history; it expects US/UK/Can/Aus/NZ do its fighting and hates us for it. No EU country has any integrity except Poland, Pribaltika and Britain. After Brexit, assuming the Tories survive, I would hope and expect Britain to start playing a more active role. But it will need Trump to fully get on board.

    • The whole she-bang is coming from our wallets, from Nato to Ukraine. You forgot to mention Denmark again… also i see five eyes shining through again badly… gotta compete with my 22 ears project though… 😀

      • It was the Five Eyes that did the fighting in WW2. Europe did fuck all. Nothing changed. The Poles and Czechs helped a bit, but commie sympathiser FDR sold them down the river at Yalta.
Incidentally I watched an old Hitchcock movie over the weekend: The Lady Vanishes, made in 1938. A very great movie, but the end is a revelation: it is quite clear that Britain (and therefore obviously America) knew that secret protocols were already being drawn up between the hitler-stalin alliance for the carving up of Europe. This was stupidly kept quiet for fear of upsetting the Russians, for years. Ribbentrop-Molotov lives on, albeit in modified form. Clearly the Franco-German alliance that runs the EU is still subordinate to Russia.
PS: yes, fair point, I keep forgetting honourable Denmark. But only to remind you to tell me!

  2. Europe wants trade with Russia and is quite happy to accept Russian money in its capitals without questioning its origins…… money talks.
Europe does not want to be disturbed. It doesn’t want to see the dangers to itself beyond Russia’s war in Ukraine. It wants to go back to “business as usual” with Russia as soon as possible. The war is a nuisance. Dead bodies of Ukrainian patriots are a nuisance.

What is your opinion?
