Russia’s Election Chief Tased During Burglary – Police

A masked robber has allegedly tased the head of Russia’s Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, during a burglary, police said Friday.

The intruder had reportedly broken into Pamfilova’s house on the northwestern outskirts of Moscow through a window after midnight and repeatedly hit her with a stun gun before fleeing, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

The statement did not indicate the scale of Pamfilova’s injuries.

Interfax cited the Central Election Commission as saying that Pamfilova is in good health and is taking part in an international conference.

The Baza Telegram channel reported that the robber had forgotten to turn on the stun gun.

The attack took place on the eve of a controversial election to the Moscow city legislature on Sunday. Thousands have taken to the streets this summer after election officials barred a slew of opposition candidates from appearing on the Sept. 8 ballot.
