Merkel: EU cooperation with Russia will be limited until it adheres to Minsk agreements

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the full cooperation of the European Union with Russia would not be possible until it implements the Minsk agreements, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

“The Minsk agreements must be implemented… before that, the opportunities for cooperation will not be at the same level we would like them to be,” said Merkel at a joint press conference with Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda. According to the German Chancellor, the parties discussed this issue at the meeting on Wednesday.

Earlier Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky offered Russian President Vladimir Putin to meet in Minsk with the participation of Donald Trump, Theresa May, Angela Merkel, and Emmanuel Macron.

Earlier, the Secretary of National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Danylyuk said that the new Ukrainian government intends to implement the Minsk agreement fully. The set of measures for the implementation of the Minsk agreements consists of 13 items, but none of them has been implemented in four years. The authorities of Ukraine during Petro Poroshenko’s presidency insisted that the implementation of political points of the agreements is impossible, while military activities continue in the Donbas. However, according to Danylyuk, “it is not right to be stubborn in these issues.”

What is your opinion?
